A mother has been arrested for allegedly selling her baby girl for $15,000 on the black market.
She is accused of handing her newborn over to an unknown couple only one week after birth.
23-year-old Barnokhon Rasulzhan Kyzy, a mother-of-three, wrote out a receipt that shows she received one million roubles ($15,000) payment, according to cops.
However, she was snared by Alternative, an anti-slavery group, who was working with undercover police after they saw her advert to sell the baby.
Kyzy previously tried to sell her older daughter but failed, also for the same amount, according to reports. The mother confessed in full and has been detained in custody pending a criminal investigation.
If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison.
“The life of the child is not now in danger,” a source in the Russian Investigative Committee said.
Activists from the anti-slavery group posed as potential buyers answering her advert to sell the baby.
Head of the group Oleg Melnikov said the baby could’ve been sold to human traffickers. “We prevented the sale of a newborn girl who could fall into the hands of the criminals.”
A police video also showed the mother confessing to selling the newborn under interrogation in Moscow.
The baby, alongside her two other children, 4-year-old son, and 1-year-old daughter, has been put into care. They are to be put up for adoption.
Vladimir Tsurkanu of the Russian Investigative Committee warned of a rash of newborn selling cases. In one case, a mother was accused of selling her baby for $90. In another case, a boy was sold for $4,500.
