A mother-of-six was accosted by the police after being spotted carrying her newborn in a shopping bag amid scorching heat.
The incident happened in Kiev, Ukraine, where witnesses reported a 29-year-old woman to the police after hearing her “singing a lullaby to her bag.”
According to one passerby, they approached the woman who “behaved weird” before hearing baby cries coming from her shopping bag.
“I approached her and asked if I could look in the bag. She said ‘no’ and hurried away. I reported the woman to the police,” the onlooker explained.
As seen in the footage taken by the witness, other onlookers expressed their concerns over the baby’s wellbeing. As one person suggested, the newborn “could suffocate in the bag.” Another one also pointed out the baby was wrapped in winter clothes even though it was 86°F (30°C) outside.
After the police had shown up, the woman allegedly told them to leave her alone and insisted that her baby was fine.
“We looked into the woman’s bag and saw the newborn inside. We put the child into our car while we were waiting for an ambulance. The mother behaved aggressively toward us,” one of the officers explained.
After the incident, the baby was taken to the hospital to receive proper medical care. As for the mother-of-six, who hasn’t been named, she defended her actions saying “she put the baby into her bag because she did not have a pram.”
The mother also explained she had six children and came to the city “to find a job.”
According to the reports, the 29-year-old now faces a fine for neglecting her parental duties.
