This is a heartbreaking moment a mother tragically died after giving birth to a healthy baby boy.
33-year-old Erika Becerra from Detroit, Michigan, was eight months pregnant when she was diagnosed with coronavirus.
She gave birth to Diego Antonio Becerra on November 15 but sadly, she never got the chance to hold her baby.
In an interview with WBTV, her brother Michael Avilez said: “She had a normal labor. She gave birth to her son but didn’t get to hold him because right after she gave birth, that’s when they put the tube in.
“Then, from there, she just started declining.”
The heartbroken brother described how they all sat together and prayed in her final moments.
“Towards the last moments, she was tearing up. I know she heard us as we prayed for her, we talked to her, we comforted her in the last moments,” Michael shared.
He also said that his sister didn’t deserve what happened as she just wanted the best for everybody.
“All my sister wanted was the best for everybody and she cared about lives. She didn’t deserve to go through what she went through,” he told CBS LA.
“I know God needed her more than I did and with open arms, we gave her to God last night,” Michael said on December 4.
A GoFundMe page set up for the family to help with funeral costs described Becerra as “a very caring individual” who was “never biased, never critical, always accepting and joyful.”
According to reports, Becerra had no underlying conditions. Her husband, one-year-old daughter and newborn baby boy have since tested negative for Covid-19.
