A mother-to-be was left fuming after her boyfriend secretly picked and announced the name he had chosen for their baby without consulting her.
As an anonymous young woman revealed in her Reddit post, her partner decided to take the name of their future baby into his own hands as he not only picked the name without consulting her but also announced his decision to his friends and relatives.
According to the mother-to-be, her boyfriend picked a name from Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight even though she’s not a fan of that idea.
“My boyfriend and I are both 18, and 35w pregnant with our daughter. Since the day I found out we were having a girl he was hell-bent on naming her Renesmee, absolutely refuses to compromise,” she wrote in her post.
“He’s a massive Twilight fan, I personally hate it and would much rather that we don’t name our baby after a fictional character.”
Despite continuous arguments about their incoming baby’s name, the boyfriend decided to take matters into his own hands behind his girlfriend’s back as he announced the name he had picked on Instagram.
“I can’t wait to meet you Renesmee,” the boyfriend allegedly wrote as he shared a photo of him and his girlfriend on Instagram.
After her discovery, the upset mom-to-be confronted her boyfriend only to be turned down after telling him to delete his post or edit the caption.
“He refused, saying his friends knew now so we had to stick with it. I said ‘I haven’t f***ing agreed to naming our daughter after some stupid made-up character from the worst books ever f***ing made. Delete the post now or get the f**k out of my house,’” she wrote.
“He left to spend the night at a friend’s and my parents who heard the argument said I should just let him name our daughter that, saying it probably means a lot to him and that I’m being an unreasonable asshole.”
After asking Reddit for advice, people were quick to rush to the girl’s aid saying her boyfriend was being unreasonable with his demands.
“100% both parents have to like the name and the kid has to live with it through school. And as much as we love them, kids are jerks,” someone wrote.
“Baby names fall into the ‘two yeses, one no’ category. He absolutely sucks for the post and trying to use that as leverage to get his way,” another netizen suggested.
“Be careful about someone who uses such a tactic. Your parents also suck for telling you to just go along with the name. At the hospital, I would tell the nurses not to let him sign the birth certificate without you.”
