A 27-year-old mother accidentally broke her ankles and torn some ligaments while trying to perform a TikTok dance challenge.
Sapphire Charlesworth, a mother-of-two, and her partner were attempting to do the Oh Na Na Na challenge to keep themselves entertained during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Thousands of other TikTok users have shared similar videos of themselves but it didn’t go quite well when Sapphire and partner Naadjele Lartey tried it.
The challenge sees people tapping their feet together to the sound of the Oh Na Na Na.
In an interview with ChronicleLive, she said: “We were just practising, and as I went to turn I slipped and heard ‘crack, crack’ and then I was in a heap on the floor.
“It hurt so so bad. I think my partner thought I was exaggerating. She had to pick me up and we were trying to wait to see if the pain wore off but then we had to phone an ambulance.”
Sapphire was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham where she was told that her ankle was broken and her right was fractured.
The 27-year-old mother is now wearing a moon boot on her right foot and a full cast on the other. Doctors also told her that she might need an operation to treat the damage.
“To anyone thinking of trying it, I’d say approach with caution,” she expressed. “It’s not as easy as it looks.”
She also thanked the NHS staff who took care of her amid coronavirus pandemic. “I want to massively thank the NHS. Through all of this, they are keeping their spirits high.”
Sapphire is now back home being nursed by Naadjele, who is also taking care of the two children.
One internet user commented: “TikTok needs to end.”
Another wrote: “Hmm…break dancing.”
