A young mum has come up with a heartbreaking bucket list after being diagnosed with cervical cancer when she was only 19 years old.
Now 21-year-old Abbie Colvin was in for a shocking diagnosis after experiencing symptoms including bleeding, cystitis, and lower back pain.
The aspiring doctor now aims to get the most out of her life and do the things she’s always wanted to as her prognosis doesn’t look too bright.
Colvin’s disease was first detected during a sexual health check-up with doctors telling her she would have to undergo a hysterectomy. After dealing with the fact that she might never have a baby, however, a urine test revealed she was already pregnant.
Despite doctors offering her chemotherapy, young Abbie turned them down as she didn’t want to put her baby’s health at risk. This decision, however, allowed cancer to advance rapidly.
Fortunately, a healthy baby boy named Oscar was born on December 12. Two weeks after his birth, Abbie finally started her taxing chemotherapy.
Despite being heavily burdened, both mentally and physically, the young mother continues to wake up at 4 am in the morning to do her job and study to become a doctor at the same time.
Abbie’s sister, Christie, set up a fundraising page for the 21-year-old and shared the bucket list her sister came up with.
“Her loved ones around her see her when she’s unable to even lift her head off her pillow because she’s so weak from the treatment, her bald head because she’s lost all of her hair,” Christie expressed.
“But no one would ever know as she holds her head high and has the happiest spirit you could ever imagine.
“She never lets anyone around her feel down and sad and that’s exactly why she keeps such a brave face and powers on as if nothing’s even going on in her life. She keeps fighting for her little miracle baby and I genuinely believe that’s what has kept her going.
“She is such an inspiration to everyone around her. She has posted her ‘Bucket List’ of things she wants to do as life is too short and has been told she might not see another Christmas if things keep going the way they are going.
“She wants to make memories, with all her favorite people in the whole wide world. And take her baby places whilst she’s still here and can.”
