Mother Drove Her Car With Special-Needs Son Inside Into A River With The Intent To Take Their Lives

A mother who was with her special-needs son drove her car into a river in a tragic murder-suicide.

The heartbreaking incident took place in Seymour, Connecticut, where 54-year-old Connie Crowell took her life and the life of her 22-year-old son Jack on July 31 last year after driving her SUV into Housatonic River.

Following more than half a year after the death of the mother and son duo, the police have confirmed that the incident was indeed a murder-suicide, Monroe Sun reported.

“On the day of the incident, a boater who was in the area, observed the vehicle go into the water and went to assist and provide rescue efforts,” Seymour Deputy Police Chief Roberto N. Rinaldi stated.

“However, Connie Crowell refused to acknowledge or accept the boater’s assistance and rescue efforts.”

As The Valley Indy reported, the chief also confirmed that the car was driven into the river at 175 Roosevelt Drive, whereas the authorities were called at about 3.43 pm.

While a massive rescue operation took place after the incident was reported to the authorities, the mother and her son were already past the point of saving when they were found.

According to the reports, Connie was popular in her community for working with Alcohol and Drug Awareness of Monroe (ADAM) while taking care of her adult son with special needs.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Jack was known for participating in community events following his graduation at Masuk High School back in 2007.

“Everybody loved Jack, I’m sure at all the schools, but especially at Masuk. He was always happy, always smiling. He just brightened up everyone’s days,” Superintendent of Schools Joseph Kobza expressed in a tribute to young Jack.
