Karen Matthews, also known as the UK’s worst mother, was given a job as a carer.
She was then forced to leave after she got ‘too close’ to the elderly woman’s husband.
It was in 2008 when Matthews was imprisoned for faking the kidnapping of her 8-year-old child, Shannon.
She and her accomplice Michael Donovan were convicted of perverting the course of justice, false imprisonment and kidnap after the girl was found in the mother’s apartment three weeks after she was reported missing.
She served four years in jail and has insisted she’s not UK’s worst mother as she ‘didn’t kill anybody.’
Matthews was recently hired by an elderly couple as they took pity on her. The mother-of-seven first met the couple in church and they offered her a job.
The couple paid Matthews to clean, tidy, wash and cook after the 65-year-old woman had a hospital stay and couldn’t properly look after herself.
But Matthews was forced to leave only weeks later as the elderly woman thought she was already getting ‘too close’ to her husband.
The 70-year-old husband says the relationship between him and the carer was just innocent friendship. He confirmed that the mother-of-seven had been fired from her job.
“They are devout Christians and took pity on Karen after meeting her at church,” a source told the Mirror.
“They know what she did but gave her a second chance. They paid her to come round every day to help care for the woman and do the housework.
“At first, things were great and they were glad of the help in the house but soon things became tense.”
