An 18-year-old mother poisoned her newborn daughter with drain cleaner before throwing her off a third-floor balcony.
The baby was found by neighbors and was immediately taken to a hospital where she passed away a few days later due to severe internal injuries.
CCTV footage showed a black box being thrown from a third-floor balcony. The package containing the child hit the bins before falling on the ground.
The mother, named only Aom, and her 23-year-old boyfriend fled to a nearby property but police found them and arrested the mother.
Aom told police she just ‘panicked’ after giving birth and wanted to hide the child from her boyfriend as he wasn’t the girl’s father.
“I went into the toilet after I felt a squeeze around my lower abdomen area. The baby arrived after that and I was panicking,” she admitted.
“I did not want my boyfriend to know about it. I decided to pour the drain cleaner all over the baby’s face and into its mouth then thrown it away. I then cleaned the blood in the toilet after that.”
The boyfriend told police: “She just ordered me to buy her a sanitary napkins then leave her alone on that day.
“After I came back the room has been cleaned but I did not notice anything suspicious but my girlfriend’s fatigue.”
Police managed to trace the mother after watching the CCTV. The two were detained and remanded in custody.
“Sadly the baby girl died and the charges were made more serious, from attempting to kill her baby to murder,” said Police Colonel Pongjak Preechakarunpong.
“Both of the suspects have been denied bail. The mother admitted all charges but her boyfriend denies helping her. However, we will also charge him as from the evidence, we believe he was involved.”
