33-year-old Amie Collier told her children in a heartbreaking message ‘mummy’s head got too sad’ before she committed suicide.
The depressed mother sent Anthony Clay an 8-minute video and explained why she wanted to give up on battling her mental condition.
Collier also explained she felt like a bad mother because of her depression.
She also told Clay that it was almost impossible for him to understand the full extent of her condition. “Please forgive me for leaving my children. Tell them I love them so much but that mummy’s head got too sad,” Collier told him.
“Please make sure they are well looked after and my mum is kept safe and well.”
Clay was shopping with their child when he rushed home after receiving Collier’s final message. His partner was found hanging in the bathroom and rushed to hospital where she passed away a few days later.
Collier’s video message was read out by a coroner as Clay wept. She said she ‘tried everything’ to fight her depression.
“You’re constantly reminded that you’re a bad mum because someone is better.
“I don’t know where the demon has come from, I don’t know where it started – I just know I’m a sorry case,” she said.
It was also heard that Collier had been grieving over the death of her stepfather.
“Everywhere she would go, she would be the heart and the soul of the party,” Clay said to the inquest.
“She was the star who walked in the room but I knew from living alongside her that smile wasn’t always the case.”
Clay said that Collier ‘wasn’t 100 percent’ after giving birth to her son and she ‘had researched what to do and to go and speak to someone.’
The day before she committed suicide, Collier asked him to take their daughter out as ‘she just wanted a minute for herself.’
He added: “The next day we were in Superdry at the Trafford Centre when I got the text from Amie.
“I bundled my daughter under my arm got in the car and went back. It is supposed to take 40 minutes I think I got back in about 25.
“The keys were in the door when we got back and my daughter was just following me as I went round into the back garden. I rang the police as my thoughts were she’s not in the house.”
He added: “My Marine training in terms of preservation of life kicked in and I did CPR on Amy.”
Sadly, Collier passed away after six days.
