An upset mother has spoken out after a preschool teacher prohibited her son from eating homemade sausages because she deemed them “too high in fat.

The Aussie mom shared her story on a Facebook page called Mums Who Cook & Bake where she explained that she prepared her son’s meal, which included vegetables, fruits, protein balls, sausages, and cheese, from scratch.

As she added, however, the teacher didn’t let her son finish the meal and made him return it to his mum with a “condescending” note attached.

The letter wrote:

“Let’s work together to make it easier for children to make healthy choices! There were lots of great choices in this lunchbox however…

“Sausage rolls too high in fat … (Please provide nutrient value if they are homemade) … Do not fit with our service’s nutrition guidelines. For some healthier lunchbox ideas, ask an educator, or go to the Good for Kids website.”

After receiving the note, the furious mother took the issue to Facebook where she wrote:

“So I cooked my butt off … included in the cook were sausage rolls loaded with veg I sent them off to preschool with them to return along with this note. They will still get eaten it’s just so frustrating.”

Defending the sausages, the mum added:

“My son takes the same sort of lunch every day and more fruit veggies and meat and cheese. In my opinion these sausage rolls are pretty healthy for him, I will be sending the information back to the school.

“They do not allow the food item to be eaten once they attach the note. I had a feeling this would happen so I packed extra for him. I also packed two Milo balls just to see if they also said no to them, guess what they were allowed.”

After the “rude” note went viral, many parents expressed their support for the mother and shared their own unpleasant experiences related to their kids’ lunchboxes.

“That’s ridiculous! If they’re going to be policing lunchboxes, they should provide lunch then, just like they do around the world,” one commenter wrote.

“Preschool teachers are not nutritionists. I’d be furious. How dare they,” another one said.

Meanwhile, some parents suggested it was immoral to stop children from eating, and consecutively keep them hungry, simply because the teacher deems food to be unhealthy.
