An extremely poor 25-year-old mother handed over her newborn baby to a middle-aged teacher for £34 in Russia.
A CCTV footage shows the mother named Inna Petrova, who is in need of money, clutching her nine-day-old daughter at Omsk airport in Russia.
Natalia Zhdanova, 43, from St Petersburg can be seen collecting the baby from her mother who kisses her for the last time and hands over the child to the middle-aged teacher.
To fly back to her home city with the child, Natalia then used a fake birth certificate to show airport security.
The video was released by the Investigative Committee that shows the distraught mother handing over her nine-day-old daughter to the teacher for £34.
Now both women could each face up to ten years in jail for child trafficking.
After being arrested, the mother admitted she was wrong.
After her adult son left home, Natalia wanted to raise another child.
She posted an online advertisement:
‘Hi everyone! My husband and I would very much like to get a baby aged 0 to 3 months. All the documents for adoption are ready. Please send a private message for details. Girls, darlings, please help.’
Petrova replied to her advertisement:
‘Hello, I would like my daughter to be adopted. Please do so, I am not able to raise her, no chance’.
After a short relationship with a man she met at a local cafe, Petrova got pregnant and was unable to raise a child as she lives with her mother and sister in an apartment.
Omsk prosecutor Vasily Gumenyuk said:
‘During our interrogation, the biological mother of the baby explained that she lived in a rented apartment with her mother and sister.’
‘Both were strongly against the baby and put strong psychological pressure on the future mother.’
‘The young woman failed to get a job, and she was not married to the father of her baby.’
‘He knew about her pregnancy but did not plan to support her. She decided to give away the baby to the teacher from St Petersburg.’
Petrova’s landlady, who came to know about this by Petrova and her mother, immediately informed the police.
Petrova said:
‘All the way through my pregnancy, my mother and sister were attacking me. They wanted me to have an abortion.’
‘My mother threatened me, saying ‘If you give birth, just don’t come back home, I won’t let you in! They told me a baby is not a toy.’
Now, the child will be put in an orphanage.
