A mother-of-three, Diane Birkby, from Leeds was homeless at the beginning of lockdown before a charity paid for a one-room B&B.
Diane’s three-year-old daughter has a condition and is vulnerable to coronavirus.
She said her children were unsettled as it was very difficult for the children to be in one room for 24 hours. They were unsettled and were constantly arguing and making noise.
She feared the owners would throw them out because of the noise.
She felt upset and stressed for not providing a roof but she said she did everything that she could do to provide for her children.
Diane said: “It was horrible, it felt like I couldn’t be a proper mum to them. I was stressing, that I was being short with them, they were being short with me, it was just constant arguments, that ain’t how it should be.”
“I couldn’t provide them a roof, I couldn’t provide them stability, but at the end of the day, I tried. I was trying to do the best I could for them.”
She told that the people who are stuck at home shouldn’t complain because at least they have a house to live in.
Diane said a lot of people don’t even have a roof and are roaming on the streets. She told those people to be grateful and thankful and not to take these things for granted.
She said: “They should just be grateful because there are a lot of people out there who are on the streets, who can’t get homed, that are needing a roof over their head.”
Diane said people have their homes and their belongings with them and they should not complain just because they have to stay at home amid lockdown.
She said: “Just be grateful and thankful for what they’ve got.”
