A 30-year-old mother attempted to jump off a balcony after finding her 4-month-old baby lifeless in his cot in a hotel room.
Hotel employees managed to stop the devastated mother from committing suicide.
According to reports, the mother had put her baby to bed with a bottle of milk in a Corfu hotel in Argyrades, Greece.
But the next day, she found her son unconscious and not responding to her voice.
She immediately contacted the hotel doctor who said the baby had died overnight, ‘probably from drowning.’
The heartbroken mother then tried to jump from the balcony but hotel staff intervened and managed to save her just in time, Prothothema reported.
The mother was taken to a hospital where she now receives psychological treatment.
One internet user commented: “How terribly sad. Poor baby and mum. What a nightmare. I don’t understand about leaving an empty bottle in the cot with the child.”
Another wrote: “Poor, poor Mother. Absolutely heartbreaking, I hope she gets all the love and support she needs.”
This comes after a 46-year-old tourist passed away after falling from another Corfu hotel. He had been on a holiday with his girlfriend at the Kanoni peninsula.
The tourist reportedly fell from the third-floor balcony and was killed instantly. Officers have ruled out the possibility of foul play.
Ioannis Aivatidis, Corfu’s medical examiner, said to APE-MPE “the side effects of the antidepressants that the 46-year-old was taking will also be examined.”
