A woman named Amy Ward from the Central Coast pulled off a ‘Kidchella’ seventh birthday party for her daughter inspired by the Coachella music festival.
The 32-year-old mother spent almost $2,000 in the process. She knew her daughter Taleah didn’t want anything ‘too babyish’ to celebrate her seventh birthday, so she decided to create her own version of Coachella for Taleah and her friends.
‘I’ve always loved the Coachella music festival in the US and so has Taleah,’ Amy told FEMAIL. ‘I love the way people dress there, as well as the music element and the decor.’
‘Pinterest gave me lots of ideas and it took off from there,’ Amy said. ‘I added my own touch and elements to appeal to the kids and make it enjoyable for the little ones as well as the grownups.’
‘We also bought lots of accessories and decorations, which I’m sure will help for events in the long run,’ Amy said.
‘There was no template for this. We simply laid out the piping to see what looked best. We were also able to get a nice big pallet from our local Bunnings for free, which is what was situated in front of the tent.
‘Not everything has to be expensive – it’s just trying to think about what is local to you in order to be creative. The vases and plates also came from Kmart and cost just $1 each on sale, while the milk bottles were $5 for six of them.’
‘I bought Taleah’s little outfit from Kelly Dugdell, she looked like a little boho princess on the day.’
Taleah and her friends enjoyed pizza and garlic bread for lunch, as well as face painting, flower crown making and party bags when they left.
‘We are very fortunate insofar as we have a beautiful outdoor area at home that is perfect for entertaining,’ Amy said.
‘I was able to start setting up the party a few days in advance, so I wasn’t stressed on the day and was instead able to enjoy it.’
‘My biggest tip for parents is to pick a theme with your child early on and get started,’ she said.
‘This allows you to buy things slowly over a period of six months or more – so you can keep an eye out for things on sale and keep in mind what you’re going to need.’
‘It also pays to keep in mind your child’s interest and what is going to appeal to them and their friends,’ Amy said. After all, it is all about their special day.’
