“My MIL wants our future children to call her mommy (mil first name) and me be a mommy (my first name),” the woman wrote in her post.

To make matters worse for her situation, the lady revealed how her husband took his mom’s side and suggested that she was just overreacting when she had told him she didn’t want her kids to call her MIL mommy.

“He thinks it’s not a big deal and I’m just being dramatic,” she added. The mother also explained how her husband defended the bizarre idea saying that that’s how things are done in his family, whereas he allegedly also referred to his grandmother as mommy when he was young.

After the woman asked the internet for advice, people appeared to quickly take her side and call the mother-in-law weird and controlling. As many suggested, the mother should be extra cautious because her MIL might want to take control of her kids.

“So MIL thinks your kids should call you ‘Mommy Linda’ (or whatever-your-name-is)?? GOD that’s weird. She obviously wants to have equal footing with your kid – watch TFO for this woman,” someone warned.

“Tell your husband if she wants to be Mommy, she can birth some new children. Tell your husband that outside his circle, this is abnormal. Names and roles exist for a reason. By definition, she is a grandmother. Ask him why she wants to be specifically called Mommy,” another user suggested.
