A mom-of-three decided to tell other parents to “lower lunchbox standards” so kids who don’t have fancy meals don’t feel bad.
Laura Mazza is a blogger who runs Mum On The Run regularly posts on Facebook about the realities of being a parent.
She shared how “extravagant” meals at school could make some kids feel “unloved.” In a post on Facebook, she wrote: “Being a parent in 2020 is some bulls**t, let me tell you.”
“I have spent three hours nay more, looking up bento boxes, protein to carbohydrate to sugar ratios for those little compartments and how to make the food look like a happy koala in a tree, with little love heart toothpicks coming out of it and watermelon shaped love heart eyes to prove to my child he is not unloved.
“Because all the other kids have these extravagant lunches and his mother just wants to go back to the good old days of being a parent in ‘91 where she got a soggy tomato sandwich wrapped half a*sed in cling wrap in a paper bag and she got what she got and she didn’t get upset.
“Who started this bulls**t? Who set the standard like this? Stop it. Stop it.
“Because of you I have to cut a sandwich into a turtle, make pretzels from scratch and make an organic, double choc chip muffin that’s hidden with vegetables and mixed in with fairy tears with a side of bliss balls ladened with my kidneys.”
Laura added: “If you need me I’ll be down the Pinterest rabbit hole, taking out a small loan for stackable self heating spaghetti tubs. Let’s collectively lower the standards people.”
Her post garnered a lot of attention and received thousands of likes.
One person commented: “Omg yes! My daughter starts full time school next week and it’s making me feel bad that I just usually send her with a wrap, fruit and yoghurt.”
Another said: “This made me laugh out loud – ‘fairy tears’. I used to try harder and stress out so much because of what others may think. Now I give my kids what I think they want / need / like and to hell with all the ‘rules’.”
A third added: “Omg seriously what happened to the sandwich and piece of fruit???? I refuse to be sucked into the drama that is school lunches packed with numerous options.”
