A mother managed to prevent a potential school shooting by reporting her son to the police after she discovered his plans to attack on the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre that occurred in 1999.
Nicole from Washington said she found his journal and had no choice but to tell the police before his 17-year-old son committed murders.
In an interview with CBS News, the mother said: “It’s devastating. I know I did all I can do and that I made the right choice.”
The teen was arrested by police and charged with bomb threat and harassment offences.
According to reports, his diary detailed how he planned to use guns and a range of explosives to launch an attack on College Place High School.
“I know a lot of people that go to College Place High School. Their lives would have been forever changed,” the mother expressed.
Her son’s journal also said that he would ‘blast anyone in sight’ and ‘kill everyone possible.’ He also described how he planned to kill himself, writing: “kill self after maximum damage.”
When the mother confronted her son about it, he said that it was ‘just a story’ and a product of his wild imagination.
Fortunately, the mother didn’t believe it and she reported her son to the authorities.
Even though she did the right thing, Nicole said that she still fells ‘like I’ve done something wrong.’ But she also knows that her teenage son is in a safe place.
“I’m worried about his mental health and he needs help,” she expressed. “Truth hurts sometimes.”
That was a very brave thing to do, Nicole! It takes a lot of courage to report your own son to the police.
