Even though the anti-vaxxer wanted support from fellow parents who have experienced similar situations and share her beliefs, she immediately sparked fury as she wasn’t able to save her children from catching a preventable disease.

The unnamed woman wrote:

We all want to do what’s right for our kids. I am a real Mom who doesn’t vaccinate. My son is currently 2 months old. I’m in the hospital with him right now. He is positive for pertussis and they are telling me he got it from my unvaccinated daughter. I have been Mom shamed all day but stood my ground on our beliefs.

Has anyone else’s child got some horrible disease because they don’t vaccinate? Please comment. My baby is really suffering and it’s horrible to watch. I need some encouragement I did the right thing.”

Also called whooping cough, pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease that can be prevented easily by vaccine. Babies who catch the disease can develop pneumonia, experience difficulty breathing, or worse, die.

Netizens had no sympathy for the anti-vaxxer and accused the mother of negligence.

One of the best ways to prevent infectious diseases is vaccination. It also reduces a number of diseases, such as polio and measles. A vaccination involves a bacteria or virus being introduced to a person through injection to help the immune system develop resistance to those diseases.

It is advised for babies to get their first round of vaccines at 2 months old unless they have allergic reactions or chronic illness, in which doctors can delay vaccinating or plan a different approach.
