An upset mom has spoken out after her son’s male teacher mocked the young boy for waving to her when she dropped him off at school.
Joanna Neary is a young mom who was left heartbroken after finding out that her son was no longer willing to wave goodbye to her after being influenced by his “toxic” male teacher.
According to the mother, she and her son would always wave each other goodbye when she dropped him off at his school. One day, however, the 9-year-old told his mom he no longer wants to wave to her in front of his classmates and teachers.
The reason for this change of heart was allegedly the boy’s teacher who openly mocked the 9-year-old for waving at his mom when she dropped him off at school the day before.
“Yesterday, a male teacher openly mocked my son for turning back at the school gate to wave goodbye to me,” the mother wrote in her viral tweet as she accused the teacher of toxic masculinity.
“Today, my son said he wants to stop waving from now on. This is how it starts.”
After her heartfelt message, Neary received lots of support from other people with some viewers sharing similar stories of their own.
“In kindergarten my mom always hugged us and said goodbye. One morning tho, she got talking to the teacher and forgot. My sis and I were staring out the window hoping she would come back. The teacher told us to ‘let it go’. Joke’s on her, mom realized she forgot and came back,” someone wrote.
“That happened to me – a new teacher told me I was ‘soft’ for waving to my mum. I never forgot it and it made me not want to go to school any more as she upset me in front of the class. Please take it up with the head teacher,” another one recalled.
One person said: “Words don’t come at a moment like that. But you wonder WHAT prompts anyone to make such a remark? Jealousy at the affection in your relationship?? What else could it be?”
