A mother has divided the internet as she shared a video of her teaching her 4-year-old son how to perform a C-section on a clay model.
Taking the internet by surprise, Jessica So, a dermatologist from California, shared a video in which she’s seen showing her young son how Cesarean works on his 4th birthday.
“Cesarean #playdoughsurgery for my kid’s 4th birthday,” the mother wrote in a caption of the video in which she and her son are seen cutting through Play-Doh to deliver a toy.
After the video depicting ‘surgery’ performed on a clay model of the stomach went viral, people were left divided.
While some viewers suggested it was “disturbing” for the mom to teach a 4-year-old about such things, others defended the educational move and suggested it might motivate the kid to become a doctor one day.
“As a child and adolescent psychiatrist, I strongly recommend you to not play a such game with your kids aged 2 to 12. It might traumatize your kid and may also lead children to do the same to their peers. Insane!!!” one person suggested.
“WTAF? I consider myself a very progressive parent and embrace age appropriate learning for all topics. But this is just plain unnecessary and quite frankly a little disturbing,” another one said.
Not everyone, however, agreed that a backlash was appropriate in this case.
Defending the mom for teaching her son, one Twitter user wrote: “Kids are so much smarter than some give them credit for. Instead of making everything scary, it’s infinitely better to demonstrate why they don’t need to be afraid. And teach them something in the process.”
Another user suggested that it’s better for kids to learn the truth about birth than being told lies about where babies come from.
“Education made fun! We should have more medical/surgery related games for kids interested in anatomy/medicine. Not only does it make more educated adults in general, it may spark the dream of becoming a doctor!” someone added.
