A mother was left shaken and scared for her safety and the safety of her children after finding out that a stranger had been secretly living in her attic for weeks.
The incident took place in Queensland, Australia, where Monica Green discovered an intruder had been living inside her house after noticing that some things were off.
While the mum initially shrugged off her faulty security system and thought that her kids were responsible for moving stuff around the house, she knew that something was seriously wrong when she one day returned home only to find her home in an alarming state.
As Monica revealed, the TV and the air-con were on whereas the back door to her house was open. She also discovered a plate of chicken nuggets.
After calling the police and informing them about the intrusion, the mother and the officers examined the home and came across a dislodged access panel in the ceiling.
Following further inspection of the attic, the police confirmed that a person had been living in the mother’s home for quite some time. However, he made it off before the authorities arrived at the scene.
“I felt violated. I felt like my personal space had been invaded. I felt shocked, terrified, scared,” the mum said in an interview with Courier Mail.
“What has this person been doing in my house when I’m not home? Were they trying to harm me or my kids? Did they want one of my kids? Were they going to come down at night and murder us? There’s all these unknown questions rolling around in my head.”
As the mom added, her entire family was left frightened after the sinister discovery they made while Green’s husband was traveling for work.
“I’m finding myself constantly shaking at the smallest noise. I’m triple-checking all my locks now before I go to bed. I spent the night in the house last night with family here, but being alone in the home scares me.”
