As a parent, you are always trying to make the lives of your children comfortable.
You will do anything to make sure that they are safe and sound. It is the parent’s duty to teach their kids to tell them everything about their day. This will help the kid let out all his/her day’s frustration out, he/she will feel a little light. It is a healthy approach and a good bonding session.
A kid’s life is not that easy as it seems like. They also go through numerous difficulties within a day’s span. What will you do when your kid comes home crying because he/she was bullied in school. Bullying is a serious offense but there is no law supporting that.
As a parent, you will definitely want to do something about it. But what this Virginia mother did landed her in prison for a five-year term. Her daughter came home crying saying that she was bullied by her classmates. The daughter studies at the Ocean View Elementary School in Norfolk.
Sarah Sims tried to reach out the school to discuss the matter, but the school never cared to return her calls. So, Sarah decided to do her own investigation. She put an audio recorder in her daughter’s school bag.
As per her statement, she did it because she wanted to prove that the school management was doing nothing about her daughter’s case who was getting constantly bullied.
However, the school found out about the audio recorder and her daughter was said to leave the class. A month later, police came to arrest Sarah for the charges of felony. Sarah was mortified, she was just trying to help her daughter and now in doing so, she had become a felon.
She was in a shock after learning that she was going to prison. She was charged with misdemeanor and felony and all she did was looking after her daughter. What else would you do, she said.
When she was being interviewed, she said that it doesn’t matter that she is in jail. The only thing that bothers her that despite making all the efforts, the school management is yet to respond to her acquisitions.
NY Daily News reported that Sarah Sims was booked for illegal use of a digital recorder to commandeer misdemeanor and oral communication which lead to the wrongdoing of a minor.
Sarah’s attorney, Kristin Paulding said that if the charges are proved and she is found guilty, she is looking at five years in prison plus one additional year for her misdemeanor activities.
The school made a comment on this whole situation by saying that elementary schools don’t entertain electronic devices, these are prohibited here. Sarah told that the school is not making this about the digital recorder, no one serves jail time because of this, they are taking it personally.
When talked to school administration, the kept mum when asked about this case and Sarah. They didn’t want to make any comments and Sara’s attorney thinks that the charges filed against Sarah will not hold for too long, she will be free. Kristin said that her focus is on resolving the case and put a light on the bullying issue.
What are your concerns about bullying? What Sarah Sims did was right? What would you have done if you were in Sarah’s shoes? Do leave a comment!
