One couple from Bristol named their daughter ‘Disney’ as they wanted to go for something “extravagant”.
Being a big Disney fan, Jade Jeanes and her husband Joshua, both 27, initially considered naming their daughter after the heroine of Beauty and the Beast, reports Bristol Live.
But eventually, they decided Belle just didn’t have the right ring to it and they opted for a name that’s much more unique.
The pair named her Disney, a choice, which Jade says, surprised the nurses on the maternity ward.
But not everyone agreed, and after sharing her unique name to a parenting group on Facebook, she was left heartbroken by the negative backlash she received, with many laughing at her.
She told Bristol Post: “Friends and family love the name and I do too.
“It’s no one’s business what we decided to call her, but in the end, people just either love it or hate it.”
The mother of one added that if she has a son in future, she’s considering calling him Sonic, after the popular video game character.
She said: “It’s just a name, there are ordinary names that people give that I don’t like, but I don’t tell them that they shouldn’t give those names.
“It was more of a fun post that I assumed people would be okay with. In the end, people just either hate it or love it.
“My husband’s siblings have young children and they like Disney films so she’ll be brought up in a big, happy Disney family.
“She’s a bundle of joy to be around.”
Jade said: “We really can’t wait to take her to Disney World but since Josh and I both are afraid of flying, we thought we’d start with taking her to France first.
“We’ll wait until she turns two, but that can’t come around quickly enough.”
“I did think about naming her after a video game character,” said Jade, a former Game assistant.
“I don’t think I’ve come across any names from video games that were too ‘out there’.
“I’d love a son called Sonic.”
