According to a recent study, Humans form around 0.
01% of all life on the planet but have destroyed 83% of wild mammals threatening 1 million species to extinction. This is really alarming. It doesn’t matter how active the environment protection organizations are spreading the words out warning humans to preserve nature, the situation is going worse day by day. A sad incident that took place in the Maldives is a clear example of how our actions on the name of so-called ‘development’ have threatened our mother earth.
Recently developed Maafaru airport and the runway on Maldives seaside is known to be the famous old oviparity site for turtles. It is said that, just to lay eggs, this vanishing species of turtles travel for years to go back to the same spot where they were born.
In spite of the runway development, the return of turtles on the island for laying eggs isn’t stopped, told the local news by a source from Maafaru Island Council. Turtles not knowing that their nesting spot is no longer there, rather has been destroyed to form a runway to make the island a hot touristic spot where the tourists will come to meet these turtles.

But as they say, man will never be able to beat the nature, the green sea turtle after not finding the nest, decided to lay her eggs on the runway and after laying eggs, it was carefully released back to the sea. Later on, the locals reportedly it to be safe and sound.
Maafaru Airport was completed by the construction team. A hotel and resort are also decided to build on this site in the near future.
The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, based in the UAE, funded the 7,200ft-long runway which will be able to accommodate six jets.
What a beautiful yet sad story. Even though the mommy turtle made it and laid her eggs, we as human beings must look at what our actions will cost to the mother nature and to the other species on this planet.
