A mother revealed she just took two basic ingredients at a cost of $3.
30 to make vanilla slices. The Internet users were surprised to know that she created it at such a less price.
The Australian mother used Aeroplane’s famous $1 ‘Vanilla Dessert Mix’ and a box of $2.30 Frozen Puff Pastry sheets, available from Woolworths and baked a tray of slices.
The thrifty recipe was shared in an Australian cookery group on Facebook and took the Internet by storm. Many social media users praised the mom and called it the perfect addition to a dessert platter.
‘Made Christmas Tree Vanilla Slices today…so delicious! Lost count how many I ate,’ the mother captioned her post.
‘I used Aeroplane Dessert Mix and puff pastry. I’ll be adding this to my dessert platter. So easy to make!’
Use a tree-shaped cookie cutter to cut the ready-made pastry into shapes and separate the pieces on a baking tray and bake until golden brown. ‘While the pastry bakes, blend the dessert mix with full-fat milk until the mixture is thick and creamy.’
‘Once the pastry is cool, scoop a generous dollop of custard onto half the shapes, pressing a second tree on top and smoothing spillages around the edges with a butter knife.’
People were drooling over the recipe and one woman said: ‘They look so delicious and cute!’
‘I was just looking for a dessert to make for a Sunday lunch, this looks perfect,’ she added.
Another woman joked: ‘throw them all in a box and send them’ to her.
Simple yet something that the whole family can enjoy together as a delicious treat after a meal!
