Mourners Ignore Lockdown To Give Late Grandma ‘The Send-Off She Deserves’


Dozens of mourners have violated lockdown restrictions in order to give beloved late grandma a big send-off.

The funeral took place in Stockton-on-Tees, England, where dozens of friends and family members of 63-year-old Honor Francis gathered to pay their respects to the beloved grandma amid the country’s second nation-wide lockdown.

According to Teesside Live, the late woman’s daughter, 38-year-old Claire Bousfield, told the paper that the family was determined to give Francis “the send-off she deserves.”

“Covid can kiss my backend, I’m giving my mum the send-off she deserves. I want her to go out like the Queen. She was our queen,” Bousfield said.

In pictures taken during the event, dozens of mourners were seen assembled outside St. Cuthbert’s Church to pay their respects to the 63-year-old on Thursday.

As the grandmother’s daughter insisted, the guests were complying with coronavirus measures whereas only thirty mourners were permitted inside the church.

Prior to the controversial event, Bousfield announced the funeral on Facebook as she urged guests to wear face masks and adhere to social distancing during the Thursday service.

“Please note due to restrictions there is only 30 and a small plus allowed in the church but outside of the church there is no restrictions and we are putting speakers outside so you can all hear the service,” the 38-year-old wrote.

“Wear your masks and keep your distance and then we are doing what we are meant to be.”

The funeral took place shortly after England has gone into a total lockdown that is set to last until December 2.

According to the updated government rules concerning England, “funerals can be attended by a maximum of 30 people, and it is advised that only close friends and family attend.”

“Anyone working is not included. Social distancing should be maintained between people who do not live together or share a support bubble,” the guidance reads.
