A mum has been charged for manslaughter after she brutally starved her baby son to death, only because she didn’t want him to turn into a fat baby.
28-year-old Carla Garriques explained to authorities how she placed her 7-month-old son on a strict diet because she was afraid he would turn into a ‘fat ass baby.’ Hence, the mum forced the child to eat a low-calorie diet that ultimately resulted in severe malnutrition, leading to his tragic demise.
The mum from Queens in New York has now been slapped with manslaughter charges and will be punished according to the law, confirmed reports.
Carla explained how she didn’t intend on carrying a ‘fat ass child,’ adding how she was just following the Bible while doing so. “I put my son on a vegan diet,” she added.
Carla’s 7-month-old son named Kemari tragically passed away on the 30th of October, 2020 in his own home, which is situated in the New York district called Queens.
Moreover, media reports confirmed how the child’s autopsy revealed that he suffered from the most severe forms of malnutrition, making him nearly 10lbs underweight. And that meant his weight at the time of his death was just 9lbs and 5oz, revealed the District Attorney from Queens, Melina Katz.
“In just 7 short months of his life, the poor child suffered from getting too little food and hardly received any medical care too,” she revealed. In addition, the District Attorney spoke about how the child died being underweight and lost plenty of muscle, alongside some bone, and a few other maladies too.
The mother was termed to be the baby’s sole caregiver. She not only neglected her infant but also failed at providing him with the basic requirements needed to maintain a healthy life, which ultimately resulted in his helpless state.
On Thursday, the heartless mum was remanded in police custody, right after being indicted on three charges for manslaughter, that took away a young and precious child’s life.
