Jay Vance, from San Francisco, California, created two robot band members – drummer DRMBOT 0110 that he says is faster than human drummers, and bass and guitar player GTRBOT666.
Their band name is Captured! by Robots and currently, they are touring across the United States and Canada and entertaining their fans.
Captured! By Robots is a California-based grindcore trio with two robots and a human band member and their creator – Jay Vance. Jay says that he created the robots to form his own band but the robots have made him a slave.
Jay is a former member of the third wave ska band, Skankin’ Pickle. After Jay became fed up with human band members, he decided to create DRMBOT 0110 and GTRBOT666.
Jay, whose stage name is JBOT, said: “If you’ve ever played in a band, you would know that people suck. Egos are massive, people are emotional and difficult. Why deal with that if there is a better way?”
“I don’t play with other human musicians anymore and I don’t want to.”
Jay says the robots are run by computer-controlled pneumatics and he keeps modifying them if there’s anything wrong with them.
He said: “Air pressure does all the movements. I keep modifying the robots. When something isn’t right, I change it to make it better, it has happened hundreds of times.”
Jay also has created another robot band of teddy bears. Six teddy bear robots will perform next spring to entertain their fans with Jay.
Jay said: “I have another robot band of teddy bears, that will be touring next spring. Six teddy bear robots and me conducting, it is called Teddy Bear Orchestra.”
