Speaking from Capitol Hill, the Democratic House Speaker said she felt sad about the spectators who felt helpless as they watched Officer Chauvin kneel on Floyd’s neck for several minutes without being able to do anything about it.

“I feel sad about the spectators, and that that young woman who said she’s up all night because she wonders what she could have done differently. I think if any of us was there, we would have gone up and just pulled him off,” Pelosi said.

Speaking to USA Today, the House Speaker admitted she is following the development of Derek Chauvin’s trial even though she didn’t watch it in full. She also went on to voice her support for law enforcement before pointing out that being a cop “isn’t a license to kill.”

Like President Biden, Pelosi, too, expressed her support for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act saying that the bill which passed the House could benefit officers around the country by providing them with better training.
