NASA has recently announced their new research in partnership with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) for which they need a few healthy female recruits who are aged between 24 and 55.
This research is said to be a dream come true for every lazy person looking for a job because it requires the subject to lie in bed and get paid for it.
In other words, since the research is on the effects of weightlessness on the human body, the subject will get paid €16,500 (£14,177) to lie on Artificial Gravity Bed Rest Study for a few weeks.
The study has been planned out on a timeline of 89 days from which the first five are devoted to the subject to help them familiarize with the surroundings and norms.
Then they have to be in bed rest for 60 days, after which there are 14 days of astronaut rehab and rest. The last 14 days are solely to get the subject ready and all set for their normal lives outside.
At first, this might sound easy, but it does get to you by the end of the research. The participants are first got to a room which has a constant temperature throughout the timespan of this research, and the 60 days of lying down mean that everything a normal person needs to do, they need to do horizontally.
This includes everything, starting from eating to showering to even using the washroom. Since it can get boring in there, the participants are allowed some leisure activities such as reading books and watching TV.
They are even encouraged to use that free time to learn a new skill. However, they are not very strict with what you do in your leisure time as long as you maintain the terms of the experiment.
The participants need to spend time in a ‘human centrifuge’ for 30 minutes, every day. This machine generates artificial gravity which distributes the body fluids back to the body.
There is always a team of medical, physiotherapeutic and scientific professional around if needed.
The meals are also planned out by nutritionists who calculate how much calories your body requires to stay healthy and functional.
That being said, two months lying down, without any other person to talk to other than researchers, pancakes, and an amount of £14,000 sounds like quite a deal.
This study will take place in the German Aerospace Centre in Cologne, in September, with a few follow up exams.
