NASA has shared a photo showing the sun in a horrifying new light.
The gigantic fireball looked remarkably like a jack o’ lantern!
There is no doubt that the sun hovering ethereally in the middle of the solar system does not need any kind of help to look terrifying as it already gives a creepy pumpkin smile and a couple of eyes.
The Solar Dynamics Observatory of NASA shared the amazing yet also chilling photo on their Twitter and Facebook pages.
“Even our star celebrates the spooky season — in 2014, active regions on the Sun created this jack-o’-lantern face, as seen in ultraviolet light by our Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite,” NASA wrote.
But what’s the science behind the eerie image?
The eyes and creepy grin in the photo are simply the difference in activity between different bits of the fiery ball. Like other heat map, the bits that are hotter show in different color, and in this case, it had resulted in a carved pumpkin appearance onto our nearest star.
“The active regions in this image appear brighter because those are areas that emit more light and energy,” said NASA.
“They are markers of an intense and complex set of magnetic fields hovering in the sun’s atmosphere, the corona.
“This image blends together two sets of extreme ultraviolet wavelengths at 171 and 193 Ångströms, typically colourised in gold and yellow, to create a particularly Halloween-like appearance.”
One internet user commented: “Contrary to the Climate Changers’denial, the Sun has a far greater impact on the Earth’s Climate and weather than man has ever had.”
Another wrote: “There is nothing more beautiful than nature.”
A third said: “just in time for Halloween!”
