NASA Organizing 1-Month Commercial Trip To International Space Station

NASA has officially confirmed they would be launching a 1-month trip to the International Space Station in 2020 for the first time ever.

In order to allow the tourists to have the most comfortable and the safest experience possible, NASA unveiled its business model consisting of a maximum of two 30-day trips per year.

While the one-of-a-kind experience will be available commercially starting in 2020, the trip won’t come cheap and will cost an individual at least $35,000 per night.

According to NASA, their vision in regards to the opportunity is to open up to commercial trips “both in low-Earth orbit and around the moon.”

“Today is a very remarkable day. NASA is opening the International Space Station to commercial opportunities and marketing these opportunities as we’ve never done before,” Jeff DeWitt, NASA’s Chief Financial Officer, revealed in a press conference.

“This is all building off our upcoming Commercial Crew vehicles transporting astronauts, which will be used by both government and private citizen astronauts.”

To make the privately funded space trips available in time, NASA tapped SpaceX and Boeing to work on the crew modules for the agency’s commercial package.

For months, the mentioned space giants have been giving it their best to prepare the craft and make it through the tests which are projected to run later this year.

“Enabling a vibrant economy in low-Earth orbit has always been a driving element of the space station program and will make space more accessible to all Americans,” astronaut Christina Koch added in a live stream from the International Space Agency.

“Transitioning to this new model of business is an important step to enable NASA to move full speed ahead toward our goal of landing the first woman and the next man on the moon.
