Ordinarily, on a weekend, you would probably be drinking with your mates in your garden.
However, due to social distancing measures, this cannot be done currently.
However, neighbors in Aldridge have come up with an innovative method of sharing drinks together while maintaining a social distance of two meters as well as staying at their homes.
Thirty-nine-year-old Kris Hindley and fifty-four-year-old Tony Bennison would regularly enjoy gin together before the lockdown and were not happy about missing this part from their lives due to quarantine measures.
But this did not stop them from continuing their ritual and the two decided to make a gin hatch in a fence that divides the gardens of their houses by making a hole in it. The hole measures a meter wide and half a meter high.
This table is split into 2 halves that are attached with chains and latches on either side, meaning Tony and Kris have a surface to utilize and the fence completely normal when it is up. Kris sits in the director-style chair while Tony uses the bar stool.
Kris noted that the DIY project was totally worth the effort and the pair uses the hatch almost every night. The founder of the mining company said that it is good in this climate with social distancing and the two have got to try to have drinks together while being safe.
He noted that they have got a bottle opener, bar runners, and also a patio heater and added that it was cool. Kris noted that the duo got this idea after seeing Australian neighbors pull of similar kinds of projects on social media.
Kris also added that the pair have built their houses together and over the years, he got to know Sue (Tony’s wife) and Tony. He noted that the two neighbors have bars in their gardens and on normal weekends, they spend their time together in each other’s gardens.
