Netflix’s much-hyped fantasy TV series The Witcher is just around the corner as the streaming giant has announced it to release on December 20.
And the viewers are already saying that it leaves Game of Thrones behind.
Even though there was an embargo on the TV series, critics have been tweeting in its favor and reviewers are saying the Game of Thrones just can’t match the level of the upcoming fantasy series.
The series is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s bestseller novels and short stories and has a total of eight episodes.
The story revolves around Geralt of Rivia, known as the Witcher – “a mutated monster hunter, [who] struggles to find his place in a world in which people often prove more wicked than beasts.”
The story also involves the characters of Princess Ciri and Yennefer from Vengerberg, showing how the three are brought together by fate.
Viewers are already excited about the new look Henry Cavill has got by turning into Sapkowski’s light-haired monster slayer and definitely the way he fights with a sword.
“The Fight Scenes In #Witcher WOW Makes #GameofThrones Fights Look Awful,” a Twitter user commented.
“The fight choreography is insane,” someone else said. “First fight Geralt gets into is beautifully savage. The blend of swordplay and Geralt’s signs is perfection.”
“Some of the action and sword work choreography for The Witcher is some of the best I can recall for a sword and sorcery/fantasy series of this type in years,” one person wrote.
“The fight scenes in The Witcher make Game of Thrones fight scenes look like two drunks fighting outside a bar,” another user agreed.
According to the prediction of another fan, the “3rd season of The Witcher will be the most amazing, mind-blowing season ever seen. Even Game of Thrones can’t stand beside it.”
One person said that they had “a feeling the Witcher is going to fill the void that weak a** Game of Thrones ending has given me.”
Comparing the fight scenes in the Game of Thrones to the ones in the Witcher, it looks like the GoT fights are mere bar fights, the internet agrees.
In response to a comment that asked HBO about when the proper ending of the Game of Thrones is coming, someone commented: “All we can do is hope that Netflix’s The Witcher series is handled better.”
Not only the story and direction, but the characters and the performance of the actors in the upcoming show are also being praised by the reviewers.
Someone wrote about the lead actor, saying that he is “well-cast, smartly-structured, and nicely paced.”
But it’s not only the lead star Henry whose acting skills are being appreciated by the fans. “I’ve seen a screener of the first episode of The Witcher and, um, I think I’m pregnant,” one viewer wrote.
“Also, Cavill’s swinging that sword like nobody’s business. It’s legit hot.”
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the man behind the show, announced that the approval for a second season of the show from Netflix is already in the pipeline.
“I’m so thrilled to announce: Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will be back for more adventures… in Season Two,” she revealed on social media.
“I could not be more proud of what the amazing cast and crew of The Witcher have accomplished. [I] can’t wait for the world to dig in and enjoy these stories with us.”
The complete first season will be available for streaming on Netflix by the end of December.
