Singer Macy Gray is proposing a new design for the flag of the United States of America because the celeb feels it’s high time for a much-needed change.
Macy Gray claimed that Americans need to ditch the stars and stripes for something more universal as she felt that the current flag did nothing in terms of representing the country.
The 53-year-old star argued via an op-ed how a new flag was necessary for the American nation as she felt the Old Glory was not only dated and tattered, but incorrect and divisive too. Moreover, the star even went to the extent of providing a startling design of her own.
Macy made the decision just ahead of Juneteenth, a day that was recently declared by the President as a federal holiday for this week, and will reportedly be celebrated around the nation this Saturday.
The ‘I Try’ singer went ahead and commented on how the current flag design failed at representing the nations of this country, also arguing how Old Glory symbolism even underwent great harm during the recent Capitol Riot too.
But what really shocked so many is how the star compared the flag to that of the Confederate, claiming that it was just a misrepresentation of the citizens who live in the American nation. “It no longer gives a true representation of democracy or even freedom,” she claimed.
“It just fails at representing all of us and it’s high time for a massive change. We just cannot be forced to honor something like this. Hence, it is certainly time for a new flag,” she went on to add.
Gray went about proposing a new idea for the US flag, claiming how off-white stripes and a total of 52 stripes must be included. This way, they can acknowledge Puerto Rico and D.C. too, she explained. “The stars need to have colors that stand for all of us, your skin tone and mine, just like the melanin scale.”
