A new bedroom cinema allows viewers to recline in double beds instead of traditional seats.
The VIP bedroom screen opened in Cinema Pathe in the northwestern municipality of Spreitenbach in Switzerland.
Cinema operators hope the new concept will entice fans of home-streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix as they take worries away about hygiene and inappropriate activity occurring during the screenings.
CEO of the Pathe Switzerland, Venanzio Di Bacco, said to local news website 20 minuten that the sheets will be changed after every movie. “The hygiene aspect is very important to us.
“The offer is unique in Switzerland. But we tested the concept abroad and had no problems so far.”
The VIP bedroom screen has 11 double beds and each comes with electronically adjustable headrests.
One ticket costs $48 (49 francs) and includes free food and beverage for the movie.
The Cinema Pathe’s VIP area also features a 350-capacity Imax cinema and a theatre with double and single sofas.
One internet user commented: “Gotta love Switzerland. A truly wonderful country in all aspects of life and a prime example on how to govern a direct democratic country successfully.”
Another wrote: “Watching a movie lying down is more likely than not going to send you to sleep.”
A third said: “I am fall asleep in front of a movie for free at home and the snacks are cheaper…”
Someone else noted: “You cannot go if you are a mariner as they do not want sea men on their sheets.”
