Cops on duty are supposed to work in order to protect people and the laws, but what if a cop himself is breaking the law while he is on duty?
Well, at such times, they lose their job. This is the same thing that happened to this New Jersey cop who was found overdosed with heroin in his patrolling car.
Matthew D. Ellery, a 29 years old officer was found overdosed with heroin in his patrolling car while on duty by another officer 3 months ago. Because of the plea agreement he had signed before, he lost his job.
He had been working in the patrolling department for over 2 years now when on that particular day he was found intoxicated as he did not respond to a radio call. Other officers found him in the driving seat of his duty car in an unresponsive state.
An officer present on the venue also served as the medical expert of the department who quickly gave him Naloxone, also called Narcan to bring him back to life.
The incident happened on April 7th and Ellery accepted that he was guilty of the crime.
The defense attorney said “Ellery is a young man who is dealing with his problems and we are standing by him on this. He is a lovely man and we are sure he will come out of the state soon.”
According to the plea agreement, he will not be serving in his job and more and his driving license has been forfeited for the next seven months too. He would have to take the drug counseling now and if he fails in the same then he would be sentenced for 3 months in prison.
It was a huge story that broke out in June.
