Do you belong to the minority of people who write with their left hands? If yes, you may be a math genius!
A new research has recently revealed that people who use their left hand could be more gifted than the right-handed people, Swedish newspaper Expressen reported citing a study by IFL Science.
The right-hand vs left-hand debate has been around for a long time and none of the two groups are ever willing to accept the dominance of the other one.
Some claim that left-handed people are more inclined towards crime and have shorter life expectancy while some say they are more intelligent.
However, the researchers have recently found that left-handers could be more intelligent than the right-handers.
The concept is not new since it has already been observed that the right part of the brains of the most left-handed persons is more efficient than that of right-handers. It means their perception of space and cognitive ability is better than the persons who are right-handed.
Moreover, their cerebral cortex is also relatively larger which ensures fast processing of information due to the improved link between the two halves of the brain.
And just recently, a new study by IFL Science which involved more than 2,300 students concluded that left-handed people are better at maths than the right-handed ones.
The participants were asked to solve different mathematical problems with varying difficulty levels. They were also asked which hand they used predominantly while doing routine tasks.
After the results were analyzed, the study authors found that left-handed students solved the more difficult of problems far more efficiently than the right-handed students.
However, the difference was not significant when the results were compared for simple maths where right-handers did a slightly better job.
Although the research does not clearly prove that left-handers are more intelligent, it indicates that there could be a correlation between the problem-solving aptitude and use of the left hand.
