A one-day-old baby who was abducted from a hospital in 1964 has finally been found 55 years later in Michigan.
Dora and Chester Fronczak’s baby boy, Paul, was kidnapped from Michael Reese Hospital on April 26, 1964, after a woman dressed as a nurse took him from the mother’s room but never came back.
The local law enforcement and the FBI conducted a desperate search for the baby for the next 2 years but the case was closed in 1966 when a 2-year-old boy was found abandoned in a shopping center in New Jersey.
The parents were reunited with the child they believed was their son as the invention of DNA testing occurred decades later.
It was only in 2012 when Paul took a DNA test which proved that he wasn’t related to Dora and Chester, reigniting the mystery as to what had happened to the real Paul.
Investigative reporters set out to find the couple’s biological son and they had finally tracked him down in Michigan.
The real Paul, who is living under a different name, said he became aware of the evidence proving he is the baby kidnapped from a Chicago hospital in 1964 after the FBI called him a few months ago.
He wouldn’t say whether he planned to connect with Dora but he never got the chance to meet Chester who passed away many years ago.
A spokesperson for FBI Chicago Siobhan Johnson said in a statement: “Several years ago, the FBI reopened the investigation into the disappearance of Paul Joseph Fronczak.
“Our investigation into this matter remains ongoing as we continue to pursue all leads.
“We ask for privacy for the victims as we continue to investigate the facts surrounding this case.”
The other child who was raised by Chester and Dora talked about his quest to find his real identity.
In an interview, the father-of-one said to The Sun that he had doubts the couple were his biological parents after learning about the kidnapping incident when he was ten.
It was only in 2015 when he found out that his birth name was Jack Rosenthal. When he reached out to his biological family, he discovered more dark secrets about his real parents.
“I had expected to feel absolute elation when I finally learned my true identity,” Paul said. “But that’s not what happened, because in the very next breath I learned that I also had a twin sister who was missing.”
