Video Of A Newborn Snake Coming Out Of Its Amniotic Sac


Rare video footage has emerged that shows a newborn snake coming out of its amniotic sac.

The video, which was filmed on heathland near Guildford in Surrey, shows the snake being born while still inside the translucent sac and moving around inside.

The newborn snake then emerges out of its amniotic sac to take the first breath.

Photographer Dominic Greves filmed the moment on heathland near Guildford in Surrey.

He said: “We saw an adult female adder lying in the heather which moved away after it was spotted. Soon afterwards one of our group spotted a baby adder writhing around in a transparent sac where the female had been lying.”

“After a couple of minutes, the baby adder pushed its way through the sac membrane and slithered off into the heather.”

He said this was the first time he and his team witnessed this incredible moment. He said that he has been photographing British wildlife for the last 10 years but he never witnessed a snake coming out of its amniotic sac.

He added: “No-one in our group of Amphibian and Reptile Conservation volunteers had ever witnessed this before.”

“I can’t find any videos showing the same behaviour on the web, certainly not taken in the wild.”

“I’m a regular conservation volunteer based in Surrey. I’ve been photographing British wildlife for the last 10 years.”

The video of the newborn snake coming out of its amniotic sac to take its first breath instantly went viral after it was posted online.

The video received thousands of likes and comments as people said they also witnessed such an amazing moment for the first time.

One user wrote: ‘Awwww, the miracle of life’ while another user said: ‘Nature is great. Isn’t it?’
