Among the 157 victims of the crashed, Ethiopian Airlines jet was a newly-married Indian woman, Shikha Garg, who was on her way to catch a UN meeting in Nairobi.
Shikha had been married to Soumya Bhattacharya for less than three months when the ET302 flight turned into a nightmare with Boeing 737 crashing and taking the lives of everyone on board.
Only hours before the tragic accident, Shikha texted her husband not knowing that it was her final message. “I have boarded the flight and will call you once I land,” she wrote.
Sadly, Soumya never got the chance to reply to her text as the tragedy occurred before he even saw the message. While he was supposed to be on the same flight as his wife, a change of plans caused him to stay in India.
According to the Times of India, a caller contacted unsuspecting Soumya and delivered the grim news before the husband got the chance to reply to his wife’s message.
Following the crash which occurred only minutes after Boeing 737 MAX 8 bound for Nairobi took off of the Addis Ababa airport in Ethiopia, the Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj contacted the families of Shikha and three other Indians who were on the flight.
The tragic accident took the lives of 157 passengers, including 2 UN members, from 35 countries.
The crashed Boeing 737 MAX 8 was of the same type as the Indonesian Lion Air aircraft that crashed in October last year and cost 189 people their lives.
These two latest crashes involving the same type of aircraft prompted airlines across the globe to withdraw the model and perform additional maintenance checks and inspections.
