Before Burgess joined AC/DC, he had already established himself as a talented drummer. He performed with the Australian rock band The Masters Apprentices from 1968 to 1972 before serving as AC/DC’s drummer between November 1979 and February 1974.

During his time with the iconic rock band, he joined the ranks of the founding members, including singer Dave Evans, bassist Larry Van Kriedt, and sibling guitarists Malcolm and Angus Young.

But only months later, he left the band following the release of their first hit single, ‘Can I Sit Next to You Girl.’

Burgess reportedly departed from the band after he was accused of being intoxicated on stage during a live performance.

He claimed that his beverage had been spiked to save his position in the rock band but his efforts were in vain.

Even though his tenure with the band was short-lived, he left a huge mark on the group’s early history.

Fans shared their condolences on social media, with one person writing: “Very sad news as I love rock music especially from Australia, and he was a part of a generation of great musicians that kicked off the music industry in Australia, condolences to his family and friends.”
