Beloved actress and Oscar winner Sophia Loren has been hospitalized and forced to undergo emergency surgery.
The 89-year-old Italian actress reportedly suffered multiple fractures after falling in the bathroom at her home in Switzerland.
It was further revealed that Loren sustained several “serious” fractures including those to different parts of her hip and femur.
“A fall at her home in Geneva today caused Ms Loren hip fractures. Operated with a positive outcome, she will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation,” an official statement shared by the actress’s namesake restaurant read.
“Thankfully everything worked out for the best and the Lady will be back with us very soon. The whole team at Sophia Loren Restaurant takes this opportunity to wish her a speedy recovery.”
Throughout her professional career in acting, Loren added 98 acting credits to her name and went on to appear in the likes of Yesterday, Today, And Tomorrow, Marriage Italian Style, A Special Day, El Cid, Houseboat, The Fall of the Roman Empire, and more.
She is best known for her role in the 1961 hit movie Two Women for which she received the Best Actress Academy Award. At the same time, she also made history by becoming the first Oscar recipient for a foreign-language performance.
“I love cinema so much. I want to keep doing it forever. I know it’s difficult to find good stories, but sometimes I fall in love with the right ones. I intend to make movies forever,” Loren recently told Ew.com after appearing in the 2020 Netflix movie titled The Life Ahead.
