According to reports from local media outlets, the plane’s engine caught on fire, which resulted in an emergency evacuation of passengers through emergency slides as per the FAA.

The airline shared more about how all 172 passengers and six crew members were made to exit the aircraft as shocking images showed a giant pile of smoke emerging from the jet.

At least 12 people were transported to a nearby hospital after suffering minor injuries.

American Airlines flight 1006 from Colorado Springs on the Boeing 737-800 landed in Denver at about 5:15 pm. The pilots diverted the route after detecting smoke. The original planned destination was Dallas.
