President Donald Trump turned heads when he made an executive decision to crack down on migrants in the country.
Even more shocking was his call to ban specific passports as a means of restricting certain nationalities from gaining entry into the country.
Trump wasted no time in declaring that there were only two genders, male and female, which would be recognizable under American law.
This means, as per Trump’s administration, trans and non-binary identities no longer exist legally.
This really hit hard for those who were recognized through federal documents like passports. Under Biden, they were marked as X, but under Trump, their applications are now frozen, so no gender neutral passports exist, to say the least.
Now, a federal judge has blocked this ban by Trump, causing chaos and confusion across the board. US District Judge Julia Kobick says that this is unacceptable.
She referred to it as pure prejudice that needed to be reviewed under intermediate judicial scrutiny.
If the government wishes to enforce something like this, it should provide a policy that’s closely linked to an important governmental interest. ‘It’s an offense to the transgender community and also goes against the National Constitution that calls for equal protection for all Americans.
