Alec Baldwin has been accused of calling a female server a peasant after she allegedly angered him by doing her job.
The alleged incident took place at the PEN America Literary Gala in NYC on Thursday night when a female server working at the event as a sweep leader approached the chatting actor and politely suggested he should move because servers were about to bring food to the table.
“I’m a sweep leader which means I basically tell the waiters when to put down the plates and we have to do it in a certain order,” the server told Page Six.
“I was going to feed the head of the table but that’s who he was talking to, so I go up to him and I say, ‘I’m sorry sir, but we’re going to have servers walking through the tables here in a minute.’”
While the server didn’t expect an angry response because she was just doing her job, she was in for a surprise when “bitter” Baldwin allegedly snapped back at her.
“So when is it a good time to talk to my friends?” he said according to the worker. “Do I have to explain it to you?”
After the server said there was no need for an explanation, Alec allegedly added: “Well then step aside.”
“Afterwards, many of my co-workers came up to me and said, ‘Do you know what he said while you were walking away?’ I didn’t catch it because I was focused on my work but apparently he was calling me a peasant,” the woman added.
She also claimed that Baldwin was “clearly mad” and “agitated” that she dared to talk to him.
The server also suggested other guests, such as Colin Jost, were nice to her when she talked to them to ask for space to pass.
When asked if she was afraid of what her confrontation with the actor could mean for her job, the server added she didn’t worry because she “approached him nicely” and was “basically doing my job.”
