Tennis legend Martina Navratilova is having her say on the shocking Imane Khelif controversy.
According to reports from local media outlets, she tried to seize on the opportunity that arose online when news about an unverified report regarding the star’s biological male status arose.
Khelif’s gender has been a subject of great controversy in the past and this one is no exception. Navratilova led the pack of women who felt it was not fair for the officials at the Paris Olympics to let the gender-row boxer compete in the first place.
She also added that the fact that the athlete was disqualified from previous boxing championships and allowed to participate in this one was in itself a shock.
Turning to her account on X, she explained how Imane may have been raised as a woman but reports claim she is a male by birth and shouldn’t be allowed to compete, let alone win the game.
Now, more people are lining up to support the tennis star’s claims, calling for her gold medal to be stripped including women’s rights advocates.
Both Khelif and fellow boxers from Taiwan Lin Yu-ting became the center of much discussion throughout the games after they won Olympic gold, despite getting accused of being a male by birth.
Both of them denied the claims as false and baseless with Imane’s father providing proof of her birth certificate to shut down all the hate against his daughter.
