An American social media influencer got trapped in a foreign country after screaming at an employee of a car rental company.
29-year-old Tierra Young Allen is an influencer from Texas whose passport was confiscated in Dubai after the young woman allegedly shouted at an employee.
According to the reports, Allen was involved in a minor crash while driving through Dubai in a rental car back in May. Following the incident, the agency providing rental cars confiscated the vehicle along with the woman’s belongings including her credit cards and her passport.
Tierra has since claimed that the agency told her to pay an undisclosed amount if she hoped to get her belongings back. She also said the company called the police on her after she fought back against the outrageous suggestion.
Despite being arrested by the police and then released, Allen didn’t receive her belongings back as of July. She is now stuck in Dubai with no means to return home while awaiting the authorities’ decision on whether or not to prosecute her.
If prosecuted and convicted, Allen could face up to two years in jail.
“Tierra and her family have been going through hell, and they have no idea what the outcome will be and when they might be reunited,” CEO of Detained in Dubai, a not-for-profit that specializes in helping US citizens who get locked up in Dubai, said.
“Just recently, two Americans agreed to pay an extortion fee to a rental car agency, just to recover their passports and go home. If they didn’t pay, they would still be there, possibly in prison.”
Since Allen’s controversial incarceration, the young trucker’s family also enlisted Senator Ted Cruz for help.
“We have spoken to the family of Tierra Young Allen and have contacted the Department of State about the case. Sen. Cruz will continue to gather details and engage on this case until Ms. Allen is returned home to her family,” the senator’s office confirmed.
