Angela Bassett has been slammed by Oscar viewers after her reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis’ Oscar win.
On Sunday night, Jamie Lee Curtis took home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
While the audience at Dolby Theatre cheered her on when the announcement was made, one attendee was less than thrilled by the news.
As seen in clips from the event, Angela Bassett, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, pulled a sour face and refused to clap for Curtis as the latter took to the stage to claim her award.
The reaction quickly went viral with viewers condemning Bassett for not being a good sport.
“Bassett is a fantastic actress. A shame she didn’t continue performing tonight and applaud when Jamie Lee won,” someone wrote.
“Everyone wants to win. However, most won’t. That’s life. And sore loser is never a good look.”
“All you saying Angela Bassett should’ve won over Jamie Lee… her reaction was poor sportsmanship,” another said.
“I understand the pain on her side but she should’ve at least tried not to look so gloom,” a third suggested.
The news comes after Jamie Lee gracefully accepted her Oscar and delivered a powerful speech in which she paid a tribute to her late parents and her EEAAO co-stars.
“I know it looks like I am standing up here by myself, but I am not. I am hundreds of people. My bae Michelle (Yeoh), Ke (Huy Quan), Stephanie (Hsu) – the entire group of artists who made this movie – we just won an Oscar,” she said.
“To my dream team: my agent Rick Kurtzman, Alan Wertheimer, Heidi Schaeffer, Sean James, Grace Ahn, Jane Ross. We just won an Oscar!
“To my family, my beautiful husband, Christopher Guest; our daughters, Annie and Ruby; my sister Kelly. We just won an Oscar! To all of the people who have supported the genre movies that I have made for all these years, the thousands and hundreds of thousands of people, we just won an Oscar together.”
Concluding her emotions-filled speech, she added: “My mother and my father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories. I just won an Oscar.”
